Own a Gun?

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The words of the Constitution of the United States of America give us, as Americans, the right to use and keep firearms. Did the founding fathers of our country slip this into the Constitution so that they could be justified in going hunting every weekend? Or maybe shooting clay pigeons was the sport of choice? The point of the Second Amendment is to provide protection to Americans. Going back in history, we can see that there are instances in other countries that bearing arms was actually required. For Example, in 1181, King Henry II of England passed The Assize of Arms. It obliged men to bear arms. They had a duty to act in public defense.

What many people do not know is that the Virginia Declaration of Rights of 1776 carried a longer version of our current Second Amendment. It stated this: "That a well-regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power." Here we have not only a right to bear arms, but the understanding of the importance of being trained to bear arms.

A firearm in untrained hands is dangerous.

It is our right to bear arms. It is our duty to be trained if we choose to exercise that right.

Dr. Ignatius Piazza, the founder and director of Front Sight Firearms Training Institute knows this. He, himself, at one point had the shocking realization that even though he owned guns, he was not trained to use them in situations that he would need them most – when it comes time to save a life. He knew how to hit targets at the range, but he had never had proper self defense training. Coming to this awareness caused Dr. Piazza's dream to reveal itself. He not only wanted to be trained expertly, he wanted to train other people so that America could be a safer place. After all, the point of the Second Amendment is to allow us the opportunity to protect ourselves, our families, and our country from attackers. Twenty years later, Front Sight Firearms Training Institute is up and running near Las Vegas, Nevada on a 550 acre gated plot of land. It has doubled in size every year since the beginning, and continues to do so. Dr. Piazza's program gives the opportunity to become an expert with firearms, because the gun training offered at Front Sight is ranked immensely above military and law enforcement standards, allowing students to go home more skilled in firearms and self defense than 99% of the gun owning population.

Self defense goes beyond just owning a gun. Physician Dr. Alan Myers says Front Sight offers, "The peace of mind that can come from being comfortable with a firearm and knowing that you're able to be safe."
