From Tots to Teens: The Best Gifts for Children

By: Ursula McLean

Buying gifts for children is really the greatest thing in the world, not only because it makes them so happy but because there are so many things to choose from. As children grow up, their tastes change, so it is important to have gift ideas based on their current taste. With all the new trends and electronic gadgets that constantly emerge, there are a few things you can keep in mind that will help you a great deal when you are buying gifts for your children, no matter what their age.

Babies

Even babies get gifts, and they are really easy to buy for because the gifts are more for the parent at this point, as the baby is not able to actually play with anything. There are so many great things you can buy for a baby, including rattles, soothers, blankets, clothing, and anything else that you may know the mom and dad might not yet have. Typically, you give out gifts for babies at the mother’s baby shower, but this certainly should not prevent you from buying more gifts at any other time as well.

There are tons of great companies and stores out there that cater specifically to gifts for babies, so if you want some ideas then you can try these out. You can also be creative and come up with some ideas on your own. Just make sure that you never give gifts for babies that have any small pieces that they could put in their mouth and choke on. Always buy age-appropriate toys, and if you are unsure, don’t hesitate to ask the parents.

Toddlers

Toddlers are really fun to buy gifts for because they are just reaching the age where they are learning how to play with toys. There is a lot more variety when it comes to buying gifts for toddlers because they are able to play with so much more. You can buy them learning toys and activities, so that they are being educated while playing and having fun at the same time. Books are also fantastic, although most toddlers are not as fond of books as they are of regular toys.

Tots

Once children are past the toddler stage-basically the age that they start attending school-there is a whole other range of gifts that you can buy for them. Children are usually speaking very well at this point, and so they will most often tell you exactly what it is that they want, but if you want it to be a surprise, you definitely won’t be short on gift choices. By this age it is going to make a big difference as to whether the child is a boy or girl, because this will determine what type of gifts they are going to be interested in.

Teenagers

Once children have reached the teen stage, you are most likely going to have a bit more difficulty determining what types of gifts you should buy for them, especially since we all know how picky and temperamental teenagers can be. It is definitely easier if it is your own child, because you will know their personality, and likes and dislikes, and so you shouldn’t have too much trouble here. Electronic gadgets and gizmos usually go over well as gifts, as will cold hard cash. Just take a bit of time and talk to them about what they like and want, as this is the best and easiest way.
